Independence Day is the day we all look back as a nation, thanking our forefathers for sacrificing everything they did to give us this country we proudly call ours. It is undisputedly the most important day for the entire nation. And as a business, marketers use this day as an opportunity to connect with their customers a bit more.

This is done not just through the out-there clichéd Independence Day-wishing messages, but through sales and discount offers, and well-planned advertising campaigns that build a purpose connected to their brands. Many industry experts believe that Independence Day sale is one of the biggest sales prior to Diwali. This year, a common trend was marketers channeling their campaigns towards the rural faction of society.

Let’s take a look at some of the campaigns that were successful in catching the attention of the nation.

1. Mahindra’s #FeelTheNation campaign

Mahindra’s Independence Day campaign imparts the idea of ‘Anekta mein Ekta’- which translates to ‘Unity in Diversity’. The campaign was built around the vast reach and diverse culture of Mahindra’s network.

2. Vivo's #IndependenceDayNight campaign

Smartphone company Vivo launched a digital campaign called #IndependenceDayNight, which revolved around the topical issue of women’s safety. The campaign highly resonated with the audiences, with the YouTube video garnering over 2.6 million views in just three days. The campaign video was promoted across social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter as well.

3. Greenply

Greenply revisited the idea of freedom this Independence Day- freedom for farmers. In their campaign for paying a tribute to them, they celebrate the freedom of the every farmer from bonds of economic burden and debts, therefore creating a sustainable society for everyone.

4. Manyavar’s #VeshBhusha campaign

Ethnic wear brand Manyavar’s #VeshBhusha campaign was relaunched this year as well, that encourages Indians to wear traditional Indian clothing. Tapping the potential of social media, they maximized the reach of their campaign by throwing the #VeshBhushaChallenge, through the nation’s beloved Virat Kohli-the brand ambassador of Manyavar.

5. Cadbury Gems

To keep up with the spirit of celebration, Cadbury Gems launched an Independence Day special pack, with tri-colored candies. The campaign was extended through a number of on-ground activities.
